FAQ's

1. What materials do you use?
We have a variety of papers including; 100gsm, 135gsm & 160gsm. We have white and cream along with a selection of coloured, patterned and marbled papers, both contemporary and traditional.

We carry 36 colours of buckram which is a hard wearing water resistant book cloth. We also stock a variety of other book cloths depending on what you fancy or you can bring your own.

We have various leathers, bonded leather and other leather alternatives available in several colours in stock, or we can order in whatever you want.

 

2. Why do we use couriers?
We use a guaranteed next day courier to ensure that your package arrives quickly and safely. If you are local you have the option of selecting a bike courier, which is particularly useful if you are getting work delivered to your university (in Glasgow).

 

3. What timescales do you work from?

Hardbound Thesis Timescale
3 day service is £28 per copy +printing
2 day service is £30 per copy +printing
Next day service is £32 per copy +printing

6 hour service is £50 per copy +printing
4 hour service is £60 per copy +printing
2 hour service is £80 per copy +printing
 
(5p per black and white page & 40p per colour page)

 

Soft bound Thesis Timescale

Next day service £9 per copy +printing costs
Same day service £11 per copy +printing costs
2 hour service £16 per copy +printing costs


Non-Thesis Timescale

Generally 2 weeks

Specialised items 4 weeks (i.e. leather, family bible repairs, archival items)

However please call us, as this is just a guideline and timescales can fluctuate.
If you are in a rush we may be able to accommodate you (if you are nice to us!!).

 

4. Cost of personalisation
We can personalise lots of things i.e. book covers, phone covers, iPad sleeves, bibles, wallets and diaries amongst other things. We can use one of our stocked fonts to print a name or message or if you require a logo or any design we can make a die to your exact requirements.


Blocking
Up to three letters = £10
1 line of lettering = £14
2 lines of lettering = £20

5. Do you run classes?
Yes, we run classes on a Saturday 10am – 4pm, for a list of our classes click here

Our classes cover the essentials of bookbinding to more advanced techniques like leatherwork. Each class is designed to teach you the techniques required in a relaxed and friendly environment whilst also making beautiful books for you to take home and keep.

Lunch is provided on all our classes, just let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will accommodate!

7. What is the price to get a book repaired?

In order for us to give you an accurate quote, we will need the books dimensions along with photos of both the interior and exterior of the book. However it is preferable if you can bring it in to the workshop so our experts can give you more exact advice.

 

8. What is the process for getting a thesis bound?

First of all read your university’s specific binding requirements.

If you are in Glasgow you can pop in with your printed copies or bring in an electronic copy(PDF) on a USB key and we will take care of the rest. 
If you are further afield, you can use our online order service where you will be guided through the process and asked to input any necessary information. Upload your dissertation in PDF format and we will print and bind it. You can get either hard bound, soft bound or special presentation copies and send them by courier to your home address, university, or you can pick it up from the workshop.

 

9. Can we do only one book?

Yes! We love one-off books!

 

10. Do you sell individual materials?

Yes. We sell everything that we stock, please contact us for more information.  You can find some our our stock in our online shop.  We are currently adding more so if you can't find what you're looking for please just ask!
