Why use Downie Allison Downie?
At Downie Allison Downie we pride ourselves in the quality and workmanship in all our products. We take extra care to ensure that we produce for you the best binding possble in any given timescale.

Why do you only use couriers?
After many books going missing or being damaged in the post we decided it would be best to use a guaranteed next day courier service to ensure all our books arrive safely and in one piece!

What is Library Buckram?
We stock 36 library buckram cloths in order to offer a consistent colour match to your bindings. Buckram is acrylic coated giving a water-resistant and wipe clean finishand is colour fast therefore producing book covers that won't fade.
Library buckram has excellent foil blocking characteristics to ensure clear text on your books.
Overall the buckam we use has a durable but smooth feel giving a high quality finish to all books bound in our bindery.

What is an end-paper?
The End-papers of a book are the leaves of paper before the title page and after the text. One part is pasted to the inside cover. They hold the text and cover together. Also called end leaf or end sheet. The free half of the end paper is called a flyleaf.

What are Head & Tail Bands?
Head & Tail bands are the decorative strips of striped thread found at the head and tail of a book, these come in many colour and style options and can be hand made to suit your requirements.
